Greetings from IndexWa.org:

Pretty short Newsletter this month.  Nuttin' to talk about but there is a bit of news is here.  We almost did not sent it out but we do like to stay in contact with you.

1st Up: We sent out a brief explanation to everybody at the beginning of October to let you know about the Newsletter software changes.  So far, so good.  The only thing we are not sure of is "does the unsubscribe link function properly"? (UPDATE 10.24.08 YES IT DOES WORK but I don't see it in the admin section.  When you unsubscribe a page comes up telling you it did not work but it does). We will test that in the near future.  Also, I emailed the author about some changes that I would like to see.  Users are unable to choose between text or html mode.  I have it set for html and there is no choice for users.  The author assured me that is in the works for the next version (that he is currently working on) as well as users being able to make changes on their own (switching between modes etc;).

If you are having issues with this Newsletter, PLEASE let us know.

AND, we were in Shoreline taking care of my mom on Saturday the 4th of Oct.  We missed the Heybrook celebration dang it.  We wanted to shoot some pics for the site but alas, family needs to come first.  Long story on the condition of my mom but other parts of the family do not want to help and/or can't, so my wife and I are doing it.  It's a monthly ordeal (our visits) but she is well taken care of in the interim by the staff at Crista in Shoreline.  Super Christian organization I might add.

Have a great Thanksgiving.  Please remember those that are less fortunate and have no food on their table this holiday season.  For under 2 bucks you can buy a good size bag of spuds and donate it to your local food bank.  They need it this time of year.  A good place to start is the Sky Valley Food Bank at http://www.svfoodbank.org/

'Nuff o' dat.  On to the newsletter and have a SUPER family and friend filled Thanksgiving!

I Missed The Town Meeting

Dateline Tuesday 10.06.08 - Yup.  I was expecting a phone call so had to stick around the house.  I did take off to run down to Town Hall and deliver the artifacts that were mailed to me for the Index Historical Society.

I walked into the Town Hall and Lisa was so sick....Her first words were "Don't come any closer"!  She had to miss the meeting also.  She looked and sounded quite ill.

I then went to the Old Fire Hall and met up with Dr. David Cameron, President of the I.H.C and handed the envelope off to him.  I asked him if during public comment, that he mention that he received this envelope and the goods inside.  The reason for the public comment was, I do want the town to know how we came about receiving these treasures and this would point out the importance of a web site.

The Town of Index web site is not the official Town's web site although I would like it to be in the future.  It is a personal endeavor to place Index on the "map" per se.  Hopefully The Town of Index will pick up the site some day and run with it.

Struggling Economy?

We put a post up on the blog asking this question and left it open for public comment.

Are you struggling in the current economy? If so, we would like to hear your comments. What are you doing to “survive” or what cut backs have you made to assure there is not too much month left at the end of the money?  I do know that my business has been hit and it is really tough right now.  We are making drastic changes to survive.  I personally dislike reactionary changes however, it needs to be done and it hurts.

You do not need to be logged in to comment. Let your voice be heard!

Climber Falls From Town Wall

We snagged an article from The Everett Herald and posted it to the IndexWa.org Blog.  To our amazement the person who fell responded in a comment about his ordeal and rescue.

You can read the article and response here - http://indexwa.org/blog/?p=242

Photos of Two Events

There were two events in town for the month of October.  There was the swearing in of our new Postmaster, Dana Starfire and an open house at the fire department.  Photos have been posted to the blog on the site.

ALSO, we added another page to the web site.  On October 25th we were out and about and took some quick snapshots of the foliage. The new page has been added to the Gallery section (page 3) at http://indexwa.org.

Also, I keep getting emails from people asking where I live and who I am.  So, I posted a terrible photo of my self on the blog.  Now ya' know.

Thank You

Thanks to those that sent us some photos from in and around Index.  As of this writing we have not had time to get up to speed and upload them.  Again, thank you.  I may not have responded to your email personally so the thanks is now public and official.

Emergency Supplies Checklist

As a public service, we have made available for download an Emergency Supplies Checklist.  It's in PDF format so to view or read it you will need a PDF reader (there are many free ones on the net).  You may download the Checklist by clicking HERE.

A Touch of Humor In Search Terms

I tend to monitor "search words" people use on Google or Yahoo to find our Blog and/or Site.  It helps me determine what changes, if any, need to be made to the "meta tags".  For those not literate on the term META, don't sweat it as it is not crucial to understand this article.

Recently, I was checking out the searches that were made to reach our blog.  Four times I found the search term "local sex".  I was shocked (I am not a prude but it startled me).  Immediately I checked out our site to make sure the word sex was NOT in the Meta Tags.  BUT the mystery remained.  HOW ARE PEOPLE FINDING OUR SITE USING "LOCAL SEX" as a search term?  If there was any "local sex" to be had in our small town, everybody in town would know where to go without using the internet to find it!

Finally I did a search on our blog and found what the search term was pulling up.  LOCAL SEX OFFENDER.  This goes to show you that you should not attempt to read between the lines and that I really need to work on keeping my mind out of the gutter.

Maybe we should start a gossip column.  This would have made for some great gossip (as if we don't have enough of it around here).

This Months Quote(s): (We found it only appropriate to submit two quotes this month due to the economy).

1.  The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it. - Ronald Reagan

2.  The economy consists of people, and it will only grow if people feel secure and are reasonably free. - John Bruton
