This is the HTML version of the IndexWa.org newsletter. Sent to a WHOPPING 76
MEMBERS monthly (well, most of the time). Hey, we
never claimed to be big. News As It Happens has 36 members. Join'em.
IF YOU HAVE NEWS TO REPORT AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT IN OUR NEWSLETTER, THE NEXT
DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 21ST, 2009. NEWS AS IT HAPPENS IS ACCEPTED AT ANY
TIME.
1st Up
1. Dang! Happy New Year 2009
ALREADY? Hard to believe another year has past, but then we say that every
year don't we?
2. Wow! 89,567 hits last month. We think it was due to the threat of
flooding and people wanting to see "disaster". We can pretty much count on
55 to 67k hits a month. We still scratch our heads over this some time but
we "ain't complaining".
3. We would like to welcome another supporter to our site.
Janet Triplett, owner of Sky Cabins. Please check out her site
http://www.skycabins.com and if you are
looking for a getaway or a place to stay while skiing, check her out.
Thank you Janet. The small amount we charge for advertisers goes a long
way in paying our bills on the site! Welcome Aboard...
4.
Michael S. sent us a link about over a month ago, but the newsletter was filled
up and ready to go out. We found this link interesting enough to pass on
to all of you. This will take the place of A Site to See this month.
Here is Michael's words, verbatim: Google has just
published a photo archive of over 2 million images from Life Magazine - many of
which have never been seen before -- and millions more are on the way. A quick
search of Washington locations such as Seattle, Spokane, Puget Sound, Coulee
Dam, etc. bring up hundreds of images. If you like old photos, you'll spend
hours looking around at (CLICK
HERE).
Thanks Michael. Nice find.
Kudos
Kudos to our new Animal Control Officer, Bob foster. His first two weeks
on the job met with challenges that he took head on. I won't go into
detail here, but those on this end of town know what I am talking about.
Thanks Bob.

Friends of Heybrook Ridge
Announcement
Friends of Heybrook Ridge announces upcoming elections for three of its Board
positions, as well as the offices of President and Vice President. The
local nonprofit group is seeking leaders and participants in developing an
educational / recreational forest in our community. Friends of Heybrook Ridge
recently raised over $600K to purchase Heybrook Ridge, and the ridge is now
Snohomish County's newest park. We are working in partnership with Snohomish
County as we plan trails and public amenities to enhance the
property. Nominations will be proposed at our next meeting on January 6, 2009,
in the Index Fire Hall at 7:00 p.m. We invite you to participate in
this grassroots community effort.

Can you confirm that a kayaker successfully ran
sunset falls recently? It was supposed to have happend within the last 2 months.
My grandfather Al Faussett did it in 1926.
Answer has been posted to the Q & A of the blog.
Use Of The Town Logo
At the last Town Council Meeting, I asked for permission,
from the the Council and Mayor, to use the Official Town Logo in our Gift Shop.
I got the OK and things are in the works. Mayor Bruce Albert had a
scanned, cleaned up copy of the logo and passed it on to me which I promptly put
to use on some Caps.
AND- You have to get over to the Gift Shop and see the New
Arrivals. Our favorite New Creation is a print on shirts that shows two
people canoeing and the text "Paddle Faster! I Hear Banjos". There
are many more new items, so please visit the
Gift
Shop. DON'T MAKE ME BEG. (Buy something while you are there,
hint, hint).
We are constantly updating the Gift Shop, adding and removing
items. Visit the shop a couple of times a month. We may surprise
you. Oh, and we do Special Orders (a name on the apparel, a picture or?
whatever you want). Just contact me with your wishes and we will see if we
can make it happen.
Spell Checker Poetry
Thought
we would throw this in for a snicker. It's an oldie but humorous just the
same.
