Steve Higgins

Many of us knew Steve Higgins and appreciated him for his knowledge and his fighting spirit for the small guy.  We all know by now of his unfortunate demise.

Although Steve was not a resident of Index, he had several properties in town and was an advocate of the Heybrook Ridge project as well as Wild Sky.

That said, we will dedicate the July '09 issue of our Newsletter to Steve Higgins.

Sky Valley Chronicle

Something we don't normally do in our Newsletter is "plug" a company that is not a non-profit (unless they wish to pay for an ad) however, we had emailed the Chronicle to see if we could reprint one of their stories on our blog.

The reply was a resounding YES.  We THANK YOU Sky Valley Chronicle for allowing us to run the article in full, that you worked hard on putting together.

PLEASE visit their site at www.skyvalleychronicle.com, and visit often.  It is updated many times a day (we subscribe to all of their RSS Feeds), and they are in the know of the happenings in the valley.

Town of Index Noise Ordinance #398

The town council, last year, voted to put a noise ordinance into effect with a Sunset Clause that expires shortly.

At last nights meeting, June 1, 2009, Noise Ordinance #398 became a permanent fixture on the books.

There was and is still a lot of argument over not wanting to control our citizens, as we are a small town and we do not want big government.

But times have changed and there are lackluster individuals that really don't care about their neighbors as they did many years ago.

The Council voted unanimously and Noise Ordinance #398 is now in affect permanently.  For more information or to read the ordinance in its entirety, contact the Town Hall, located on Avenue A.

Independence Day

Be sure to place the Independence Day Events in Index on your calendar.

July 4th is always a big day in Index. Around 10-10:30am children meet at Dolittle Park for face painting and getting their bikes prepped for the Town Parade.

There is always events throughout the day however, our big fireworks show "that used to be" no longer exists. It's just not in the budget.

There is normally fireworks around the WaveTrek back yard that can be viewed later at night.

Index is just a wonderful place to be on July 4th as well as any time of year.

Come visit!!

Come On People!

PUHLEEEEZZZZ...My wife and I put up this website as a public service and to put Index on the map.  We pay for it out of our own pocket and invest our time for FREE.

When we get emails from people asking how to contact so and so, we do our best to respond and help out AFTER we contact the other part first and get their permission.

Many times people get upset WITH ME for not getting the results they wanted after making contact with the source and after we did all the legwork.  We don't even get a thank you (no big deal but HEY).

FOLKS, IT'S NOT MY FAULT.  Please DO NOT SHOOT THE MESSENGER.

If this continues, I will no longer respond to help requests and you can pull the info from the site if it's there.  If it's not on the site then you can figure it out for your self if your going to be nasty to me.

I will now step down off of my soap-box and thank you for letting me gripe.  I have not  yet had my coffee.

Stimulus Humor

From the editor: In the world of economics that's how it works. It's called Velocity which amounts to it's not how much but how many times it turns over.

It is the month of August, on the shores of the Black Sea. It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. It is tough times, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.

Suddenly, a rich tourist comes to town.

He enters the only hotel, lays a 100 Euro note on the reception counter, and goes to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one.

The hotel proprietor takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the butcher.

The Butcher takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the pig grower.

The pig grower takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the supplier of his feed and fuel.

The supplier of feed and fuel takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the town's prostitute that in these hard times, gave her "services" on credit.

The hooker runs to the hotel, and pays off her debt with the 100 Euro note to the hotel proprietor to pay for the rooms that she rented when she brought her clients there.

The hotel proprietor then lays the 100 Euro note back on the counter so that the rich tourist will not suspect anything.

At that moment, the rich tourist comes down after inspecting the rooms, and takes his 100 Euro note, after saying that he did not like any of the rooms, and leaves town.

No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now without debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism.

And that, reader of our newsletter, is how the United States Government is doing business today.

A Site to See:

http://www.IRememberJFK.com

This site isn't really about JFK or
politics, it's a nostalgic look back to the Baby Boom era, from The Twilight Zone to soda fountains to the introduction of the bikini (scandalous!) to ...well... whatever Ron Enderland wants to remember.
