The year appears to be flying right by us.  We are close to being in the 3rd month!  Only 9 more months until Christmas.

There is plenty to write about over a one month period but we choose not to post gossip and hearsay.

Small Town Crime

As crazy as it may seem, the Town of Index is not crime free. The biggest crime in town currently, it gasoline theft. Somebody is siphoning fuel from vehicles and the person(s) has yet to be caught.

The following is not really a crime, but a true story that happened to us personally in February 2010.
I was in bed just getting ready to cut some Z’s. You know, right in the middle of awake and asleep. My wife was in the computer room, picking up her email.
I vaguely heard the back door slamming (or so I thought) several times. My mind half jerked awake and then I heard my wife hollering “Ed, Ed….come here QUICK”.

Arriving at the back door there was some BOZO pounding and trying the doorknob to see if it would give way to entry. I ran to my “armory” of weapons and pulled out the big one at the same time telling my wife to call 911.

By the time I got back, which was literally seconds, the BOZO had disappeared. My wife was telling me (and 911) that the BOZO was drunk and thought this was his home. I went out after him but he had vanished into the back forty. I could hear him cursing as he was being stuck by blackberry bushes during his escape.

I could hear him walking and cursing, up and down the trail but a train came by and I lost track of him. The 911 operator advised me to secure my weapon as the police were on the way. FAT CHANCE. I’ll secure it when the Sheriff arrives was my response.

At this point, we need to point out that the Sheriff did arrive in record time, THREE OF THEM.

After sharing our story with the sheriff the search was on. Within 45 minutes the BOZO was found, passed out on the trail, down a hill. As he was drunk and really meant no harm (how were we to know?), the cops brought him home.

If this drunk would have gained entrance to our home, I am not 100% sure what how this would have played out. On that note, we thank the Sheriff’s for their rapid response and assistance in getting this under control.

And finally, there was a door kicked in at a residence, at night, while a woman slept with her baby.  There is more to this story however, we have been unable to verify all the facts, so we dropped it.
